Change Your Words, Change Your Thoughts - Part 2
Hey, looks like it's your first visit on ZenHappens, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed, this way you'll always be upto date. Thanks for visiting!
In Part 1, we seen how the words we use can directly affect the way we think about things. This link is so profound that there is a whole communication model that evolves around this. It’s called Neuro-Linguistic Programming. But that for another time. Now let us get back to where we left last time.
The 3 Fatal Words
Impossible, Always, Never.
You know these words? We always use em. I see them as a fatalism. Words that implies no other options than their definition and often revealing a lack of open mindedness. Next time you use them, just see if you can trade them for these options below and notice the huge difference it makes on you or the person you say it too.
- Impossible –> Difficult
- Always –> Often
- Never –> Rarely
The Big I Am
Oftentimes we fall into the habit of associating ourselves with our feelings. We forget that these feelings are nothing more than states that we experience. We forget that they are feelings and not beings. The Big I am can also be ineffectively linked to negative definition of ourselves and others. If we don’t pay attention to the way we use the I am, we may very well end up programming our minds into believing what we link it to. Here’s a few useful options.
- I am very angry right now! –> I feel a lot of anger right now!
- I am a lousy driver. –> I am working on improving my driving skills.
- I am so zen man!. –> I feel so zen man!
Not Bad!
How many times do these two words follow the mundane How are you? Even if you see yourself as a positive person, it might be useful to stop and observe how you answer questions and how you ask them as well.
- Not bad. –> Good.
- Hmm I wouldn’t say no to that. –> Yes!
- Why not? –> Sure!
- No problem. –> Perfect.
Quick Question For You
I know there are probably a lot more of these and that’s why I want to turn to you. Can you add some more to that list? Do you believe you could integrate that in your everyday life? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions.
Here’s the real question : By what would you replace falling in love?
tip : That’s an easy one!
