Manu Delago playing the Hand Drum.

As a musician, I must admit that I don’t listen to a huge amount of music. Perhaps because I’m mo much involved in it by performing live or recording in the studio, rehearsing with my band and all, that I forget how much music means to me. I have some musicians friends who are always on the lookout for new bands and artists to discover. Their everlasting curiosity always amazed me.

Where It All Beggins

Today, while I was doing my social media round I discovered this video of Manu Delago playing the Hang Drum. It completely brought me back to the source of my why to music. Seeing him unfolding his creativity on this beautiful instrument totally moved me. It was like the first time I touched a drum kit and the amazement I felt by simply grabbing the sticks and performing my first beat. My life changed forever.

A Liberating Power

What happened to me today was a very inspiring observation on who I am and helped me to reconnect with a part of me that I tend to let aside too often. It pretty much reaffirms my passion with creativity and it’s liberating power. The idea that you can take a thought in your mind and by simply using a given medium, be it music, writing, web designing, dance and so on, you can express this thought with infinite possibilities.

As a web designer, I also get to express this creative power but in a very different way. I’ll get my fix in getting just the right color and gradient light apply on the fresh new logo of a client or by finding a way to make a design match the word description of my client like fresh, clean, powerful, zen, etc.

In yoga teaching, every class is like the white page just before you start writing a new post for your readers; exiting! At least, I think so. I always have to deal with different situations and parameters like the level of the students, the time allowed for the class, people with injuries, etc. The goal is to use creativity along with intuition to find out what my students really need at the moment and come up with a flowing class for them.

A Myriad Of Perceptions

What I find even more fascinating, especially with music in my case, is that whatever the intention we have as a band in our creative process, whatever the outcome we want to project as a song or as a vibe, It’s never going to be like we thought it would. None of us have the same ideas about what the song should sound like. The only tools we have are those creative impulses and some instruments to try and put them to life. Then, whatever the end results, we all have our own distinct perception of the piece and even if we all love it as much as the next one, we still appreciate it very differently. That is the beauty of it all. Now imagine putting our fan’s perception into that! You get the idea.

Getting Back To The Source

In my experience, life always finds a way to get you back to your source, to the essence of who you really are. Every time I find myself drifting to far from my core values and all that make up the thing that we call “self”, there is something, in this case it happens to be a hang drum video, that will bring me right back to my center to tell me: “Hey, remember that? It’s part of you and you are a part of it as well. Get back to it!”. Just a quick reminder that puts one back on track. The only thing is you have to be open enough to get the message when it comes. It could come from a friend, a total stranger, a book you read, a random song on your ipod or maybe while you’re silently walking back home. Sometimes the message will be pleasant, sometimes it will come as a harsh slap in the face. You just have to be willing to receive.

Can You Tap In Your Creative Source?

I cannot say that you are a creative type like I am but I can fairly guess that you too have a need to express yourself in your own way. Maybe your work isn’t as creative as being a musician but yet you can find the way to use your intuition and creative skills and blend them in your daily activities.

Even the most logical, calculated, methodic person can find this ability to create within him/herself. If we only choose to open ourselves to the various possibilities, to accept this literally built-in mechanism that was given to us, not only can we enrich our lives to a limitless extent, we can also impact other’s realities and touch them in ways we wouldn’t have imagined

From my creative source,

Zasta
