Hey, looks like it's your first visit on ZenHappens, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed, this way you'll always be upto date. Thanks for visiting!

Yoga, a heathy habit. The other night, I had a fever. You know, the kind of fever that makes every moment last forever, that pains your whole body just enough to deprive you from all forms of sleep and makes you sweat like a long distance runner? Well, I had that. Yet, it was pretty much all gone 24 hours later. The fever, the runny nose, the sore throat, all gone.

It made me think that that fast immune response had to do something with the healthy habits I accumulated over the years. So here is a very incomplete list of some of the things that have helped me to stay in top shape for the past 2 years. Of course, feel free to add to it and make it better!

  1. Stay away from Sugars
  2. Opt for Organic, fresh and locally grown foods
  3. Eat most of your food Raw (chicken is not suggested of course)
  4. Only eat when you are hungry (don’t eat simply cause “it’s time”)
  5. When you are thirsty, drink water
  6. Chew your food at least 30 times before you swallow it

How To Find Your Balance In Multiple Freelancing Avenues

Business women finding balance in her freelance life

It’s all about balance!

This is one of my favorite quotes right there.
I strongly believe that we are our own masters and that we can find a teaching in many aspects of our lives. Be it in our behaviors, attitudes, beliefs and opinions amongst other things. One place where I personaly look to find much of my wisdom bits is in my everyday words as in the above quote. Your words can show you what you have to learn from them if you pay enough attention. Here, the matter is balance.

When The Avenues Don’t Meet

In fact, the above quote greatly illustrates this. Finding balance in everything I do has been, and still is, a challenge for me, and for many freelancers I am sure. This is especially true if you work in different domains that are not all interconnected with each other. [Click here to read more →]

Hang Drum And Getting Back To Your Source

Manu Delago playing the Hand Drum.

As a musician, I must admit that I don’t listen to a huge amount of music. Perhaps because I’m mo much involved in it by performing live or recording in the studio, rehearsing with my band and all, that I forget how much music means to me. I have some musicians friends who are always on the lookout for new bands and artists to discover. Their everlasting curiosity always amazed me.

Where It All Beggins

Today, while I was doing my social media round I discovered this video of Manu Delago playing the Hang Drum. It completely brought me back to the source of my why to music. Seeing him unfolding his creativity on this beautiful instrument totally moved me. It was like the first time I touched a drum kit and the amazement I felt by simply grabbing the sticks and performing my first beat. My life changed forever. [Click here to read more →]

Change Your Words, Change Your Thoughts - Part 2

In Part 1, we seen how the words we use can directly affect the way we think about things. This link is so profound that there is a whole communication model that evolves around this. It’s called Neuro-Linguistic Programming. But that for another time. Now let us get back to where we left last time.

The 3 Fatal Words

Impossible, Always, Never.
You know these words? We always use em. I see them as a fatalism. Words that implies no other options than their definition and often revealing a lack of open mindedness. Next time you use them, just see if you can trade them for these options below and notice the huge difference it makes on you or the person you say it too. [Click here to read more →]

Change Your Words, Change Your Thoughts - Part 1

Words are powerful, many people will agree on that. When you feel strong emotions about something,
you are very likely to use words to try to give form to your feeling and make sense of them. Our minds are
constantly bombarded with words. We see, read, write and think in words. Try to think of an object and to define
it without using words. Good Luck!

It is quite possible and even probable that you are using/saying/thinking/writing some words in your every day
life that are detrimental to you and your personal growth. (That was an unwarranted assumption by the way, more
on this in the series).

Here is a pretty famous quote presumably from a man called Frank Outlaw.
Even if the source isn’t confirmed, the quote is still great:

“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

It speaks for itself, or we should say, it’s written in stone! So in other words: [Click here to read more →]

8 Sure-Fire Ways To Boost Your Energy Levels Without Spending A Dime

When it comes to having lots of energy, the picture that comes to our minds may be of action, relentless focus or great capacity to act upon the tasks and activities that we have set for ourselves for the day.

That’s pretty close to what The Saurus tells us:

energy: “The strength and vitality required for sustained physical or mental activity”.

Energy can be replenished in many ways. There is the quick fix method which usually means lots of coffee, red bull™ and Sugars. Then there is the everlasting and beneficial method that really doesn’t take much efforts and that will give your body much more than what you actually need. Let’s look at the latter.

1. Avoid The Sugars

Sugar is probably your worst enemy for energy building. Here are just a few reasons to avoid them :

  • Immune System Suppression
  • Diabetes
  • Premature Aging
  • Obesity
  • Increased Cholesterol and Blood Pressure
  • Hemorrhoids!

Ok, that’s enough. This is only an excerpt of a much longer list. Just avoid them as much as you can for your own benefits. [Click here to read more →]
